Prize

Each year, the CLEO/Laser Focus World Innovation Awards Program honors the most timely, ground-breaking products in the field of laser science. Designed to showcase some of the most significant new products in the field, Innovation Award entries are evaluated on criteria critical to product success: impact, functionality, life expectancy, effect on the optics industry, innovation and patents or trademarks. Awarded on May, 17th 2010.

Comment (by Gail Overton, LFW)

At CLEO 2010, Laser Focus World interviewed FEMTOLASERS Produktions GmbH (Vienna, Austria), one of three companies receiving a 2010 CLEO/Laser Focus World Innovation Award Honorable Mention, about their "CEP-stabilized FEMTOPOWER V for Few-Cycle Pulse Generation." The FEMTOPOWER V is a carrier-envelope-phase (CEP)-stabilized booster amplifier that generates high-power, few-cycle laser pulses critical to the attosecond science community. The user-friendly system achieves long-term CEP stability over several hours, with a root-mean-squared drift of only 190 mrad over a 7.5 hour period. Its sub-7 fs, 2 mJ output represents the highest CEP-stabilized pulse energy achieved for a commercial system. (Video)
